The over reliance on electronic communicative devices in the modern world is increasing unprecedentedly. Many argue that this dependence is making people less comfortable in their face to face interactions. I, however, partially agree with this statement. My essay explains that the positive outcomes of electronic communication cannot be ignored also.
To begin with, the major threat of this trend is that people are losing their confidence. Every face to face interaction is made by following some protocol such as people dress up properly, maintain respectable distance from one another and use socially acceptable non-verbal signs. Whereas, these things are not taken care of, during online and telephonic communication. Thus people are becoming used to of ignoring the importance of such traits. Eventually, whenever they have to talk to others in proximity, they become hesitant.
In addition to this, dependence on technology makes people less friendly, emotionless and less sociable. They become formal in their relationships. The real warmth in the relations is vanishing. Sending messages, birthday and anniversary wishes and sharing grief is done on phone or via computers for the sake of only doing this.
On the flip side, these communicative gadgets have benefits also. The long distances have been reduced and boundaries are shrunk. To examplify, people can remain in touch with their family, friends and acquaintances even by staying thousands of miles away. They can exchange pictures through emails and by using various applications also.
Besides this, flexibility is experienced by everybody in their attempt to contact others. No time or weather restraint stops for communicating. For instance, rainfall or snowfall can hinder the outside movements but people can talk to their kith and kin via phone by sitting comfortably in their cosy rooms.
To conclude, it is drawn that electronic communication is making people lose their soft skills, to some extent, but advantages of it also cannot be ignored.
