The University of Canterbury in Christchurch is New Zealand’s second oldest university. It became the second institution in New Zealand providing tertiary-level education (following the University of Otago, established in 1869), and the fourth in Australasia.

English Language Admission Requirements

The minimum performance levels for admission are:

Undergraduate: 6.0 (no section score lower than 6.0)

Postgraduate: 6.5 (no section score lower than 6.0)

Teacher education: 7.0 (no section score lower than 7.0).

TOEFL Internet-Based Test (iBT)
The minimum performance levels for admission are:

Undergraduate: 80, with Listening no less than 19, Reading no less than 19 and Writing no less than 19 (no minimum score has been set for Speaking as yet).

Postgraduate: 90, with Writing no less than 20.

TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT)
The minimum performance levels for admission are:

Undergraduate:  550 and TWE 4.5

Postgraduate: 575 and TWE 4.5

Pearson Test of English (Academic) – PTE
The minimum performance levels for admission are:

Undergraduate:  57overall (no PTE communicative skills score below 50)

Postgraduate: 64overall (no PTE communicative skills score below 55)
