IELTS Life Skills is an English test for people who need to prove their English speaking and listening ability as a part of a UK visa and Immigration application(UKVI).

  • If you want to stay with a relative ,spouse or partner already living in the UK permanently.
  • If you are already living in the UK and want to make it your permanent home
  • If you want to become a British citizen

Life skill test format

IELTS Life Skills is available in three levels:

These tests are designed to reflect the everyday experience of communicating in an English speaking country.

Students take part in short discussions on everyday subject including :

  • Personal details/experience
  • Family and friends
  • Buying goods
  • Work
  • Health
  • Education
  • Transport
  • Housing
  • Weather

Every level in this test is aimed to assess whether a person is able to listen and respond , make meaning clear and communicate with other people.

A1 Level:- Student is expected to:

  • Listen and respond to spoken language including simple narratives, statements, questions and single-step instructions.
  • Communicate basic information, feelings and opinions on familiar topics.
  • Converse with another person in a familiar situation about familiar topics.

Tasks May Include :

  • Describing
  • Giving opinions
  • Giving personal information
  • Stating preference
  • Commenting
  • Asking for information or descriptions
  • Agreeing and disagreeing
  • Explaining, giving reasons or justifying
  • Deciding
  • Suggesting
  • Selecting

A2 Level:-A student is expected to:

  • Listen and respond to spoken language, including straightforward information, short narratives, explanations and instructions.
  • Communicate information, feelings and opinions on familiar topics.
  • Talk with one or more people in a familiar situation to establish shared understanding about familiar topics.

Tasks May Include :

  • Comparing
  • Prioritizing
  • Planning
  • Persuading
  • Test Format: Face to Face
  • Number of papers: 1
  • Length: Around 20 minutes
  • A1: 16-18 minutes
  • B1: 22 minutes

Test Locations :- Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jalandhar, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Kochi and Hyderabad.

FAQs

Q1: Is A1 test difficult?
A: It is the first level on the scale and is equivalent to the basic or beginner's level.
Q2: How long is A2 English test valid for?
A: It is valid for 2 years.
Q3: Can I give A2 exam directly without A1?
A: If you are going to take the A2 certificate, there is no need to take an A1 certificate at the same level.
Q4: How is IELTS Life Skills scored?
A: Unlike other tests, it is not scored. Instead, candidate will receive either pass or fail result depending on how he/she performed.
